SCREEN PRINTING

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A fill blade or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink through the mesh openings to wet the substrate during the squeegee stroke. Basically, it is the process of using a mesh-based stencil to apply ink onto a substrate, whether it be t-shirts, posters, stickers, vinyl, wood, or other material.
Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of polyester or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance. Ink is forced into the mesh openings by the fill blade or squeegee and onto the printing surface during the squeegee stroke. As the screen rebounds away from the substrate the ink remains on the substrate. It is also known as silkscreen, serigraphy, and serigraph printing. One colour is printed at a time, so several screens can be used to produce a multicoloured image or design.

PLASTISOL
Plastisol inks are the preferred type of inks used in garment printing because they do not dry on the screen and are easy to print. In addition, they come in a variety of special effects and can be used as adhesives for caviar beads, flock and foil.
Generally, plastisol inks do not contain solvents or volatile organic compounds, making them safe to use and handle with reasonable care.
Our standard screen printing is done using plastisol inks. We are capable of printing up to 10 colors on white & light garments, and up to 8 colors on dark garments that require an underbase print. We also offer several additives to achieve a variety of textures & effects.

Water-base inks are popular with clients seeking solid details without the heavy hand of plastisol inks. Printing discharge on dark garments includes the process of “bleaching” away the pigment of the garment while the ink color penetrates the garment to create your art. We’re basically “re-dyeing” the fabric. Printing with discharge inks offers an extremely soft hand on dark shirts, ultimately having no feel at all once washed. This type of printing requires 100% cotton garments, and looks especially good with distressed or vintage art. There are some fabric dyes that resist the discharge process (cool hues such as greens & blues). Exact Pantone color matching cannot be guaranteed. Note: Excess halftones can create inconsistencies. Better for smaller quantities, as too much heat can dry out screens & inks.

A popular method to print photorealistic images is four-color process. The foundation printing method includes four screens: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, & Key (Black). These ink colors are blended through the use of halftone dots in each screen to create the full spectrum of color. This process is can be quite tricky for printing fabric and may require longer production time to perfect. CMYK best works on white garments- when printing CMYK on dark garments an underbase is necessary. Note: For specific colors in an allotted area, spot color screens may be required.

Our standard screen printing is done using plastisol inks. We are capable of printing up to 10 colors on white & light garments, and up to 8 colors on dark garments that require an underbase print. We also offer several additives to achieve a variety of textures & effects.
Depending on the type of garment or style of artwork you are printing, we offer different size screens to fit your needs. Below, you will see different garment categories laid out with the maximum suggested print size for each. The diagonal bars, in gray, signify the actual print area (pallet size). Anything within those parameters constitutes as that particular print size. For instance, if you decided to print an oversize image, you can use the whole print area up until 20” wide X 28” tall.
Remember that each order has one image size! The image size printed will not change based on shirt size. Please choose the best print to fit on all your sizes. We are happy to make multiple image sizes, but each is considered a new order and priced as such. Therefore, a 15” wide image may cover the front of a large nicely, but the image will be too big for a size small.
Direct to garment printing, also known as DTG printing, digital direct to garment printing, digital apparel printing, and inkjet to garment printing, is a process of printing on textiles and garments using specialized or modified inkjet technology. The two key requirements of a DTG printer are a transport mechanism for the garment and specialty inks (inkjet textile inks) that are applied to the textile directly and are absorbed by the fibers.

our heat transfers are printed in full-color on a white vinyl material that is heat pressed onto the garment. There are no screens/set-up necessary for this process. Heat transfers only look as good as the art we receive. If your artwork has an interesting shape or areas where the garment needs to show through, we do offer die-cut transfers. Our transfers can be applied to most fabrics and all colors. Digital printing is best used for items that require high amounts of detail, and smaller quantity orders.

Inks are composed of a water-based (latex) ink base combined with retroreflective lenses.

Glitter printing enables the fabric to show glittering granules on the fabric. For this Glitter powder is used.

Puff ink is a special effect type of plastisol ink that “raises up” or expands dimensionally during the curing process.

Soft hand base is mixed with standard plastisol inks to achieve a softer feel to the final print.

Metallic Inks give you a subtle, unfinished sheen without the polished reflective shine of foil.

This is created when the ink “blows out” and fractures, creating a soft roughened texture, like the suede side of leather.

Produce special 3-D, heavy deposit, smooth matte finish prints. Extremely sharp edges can be produced.

A clear ink that has a smooth or wet like appearance. This ink is usually put on another ink to get color.

The ‘metallic’ lies in the ink itself, and are available in a variety of colors (silver and gold are standard).
